God With Us

Emmanuel, God With Us
My favourite Christmas song :)

She lit a candle in a downtown cathedral
Quietly confessing, counting on a blessing
She looked as if she had nowhere to go
I could see her weeping
Hands together hoping you would hear...

This is the time of year
We hold our families near
But God let us be a friend to the hurting

::chorus::
Oh Emmanuel, God with us
Spirit revealed in us
That we may be your hope to the world
Oh Emmanuel, God with us
With a light to break the darkness
That we may show your hope to the world
Emmanuel, God with us
Be God in us

I moved in closer just so I could see her face
Maybe she was a mother
Someone's only daughter
Her silver hair shimmered like the snow
Christmas bells were ringing
Now beside her kneeling I asked her name

(And she said)
This was the time of year
I had my family near
But they've all gone and I have been so lonely

::chorus::

So with my family that Christmas day
A girl of sixty years would laugh and play
And as we watched her dance our eyes were full of tears...

Oh Emmanuel, God with us
Spirit revealed in us
That we may be your hope to the world
Oh Emmanuel, God with us
With a light to break the darkness
That we may show your hope to the world
Emmanuel, God with us
Be God in us

Three Days 'Til...

...Christmas *grin* I often say I'm excited about it and yeah I do get like that, but really I find Christmas isn't always as much about the day as it is about about looking forward to the day. And of course that aftermath of rewarded anticipation feel that lingers around for weeks later. It's all those days snuggling around that certain day that really make the day what it is. Think about it. If you lived in a cave and had no notion of Jesus or celebrating his birth day, and then suddenly out of the blue you get these visitors and they bring a party in with them, it would still be cool, but no where near as good. You'd still have this day of wild excitment but you'd have no anticipation to cement the joy in and slowly the details of the day would fade into a small pin prick in your memory. So, yes, I love anticipating delightful things.

~~~***~~~
Remember a few weeks ago when I mentioned how I haven't cooked any cookies this year? Well, I can only halfy claim to that anymore. Halfly that is. I in no way have any extra strength to actually do it, but Hannah and I had earlier decided to make a huge jar of cookies for Dad for Christmas (It's a huge jar mind you, and we're planning on making no less than five batches of different cookies). With me being my own form of an invalid, Hannah and I have devised our own system on how to cook together. My main job is to make sure Hannah doesn't forget to add the sugar (she has this thing for not reading recipes...and somehow forgetting the sugar even if she does. It's really turned into somewhat of a joke) and make sure the cookies get pulled out of the oven before the boys start sniffing the air and announcing such disheartening news as, "I think something is burning." In the last two days Hannah's former predictable disasters have all been averted and we have three successful batches of cookies stashed away of which we're both rather proud *g*
~~~***~~~

I just completed a Christmas present today that is also somewhat of a gift to y'all too. That is, I hope you'll like it as well. It's a stockpile of photos of all us Davis's in our everyday lives and significant moments of this year. It was originally just an idea of a small album to send to Matty as I know he must be so lonesome for photos of home. Then as I was pulling together the shots from all manner of hidden files and drawers, I realised that what I was pulling together was also a time capsule of our year. To see the online version for Matt go here. But the one that I made as a public version with an extra photo and more explanatory captions you'll find at: family-time-capsule.blogspot.com. I'll stop rambling now so you can go have a peek ;)

Midnight Makeover

Yes, indeed. I was longing for some dramatic change. And since the parents declare that we're not shifting for at least another six years, and especially since Hannah and I have already changed our bedroom around like three times this year, the blog was the next thing that could be differed.

What do y'all think? It's got some new stuff that I haven't tried before. Namely a tagboard and then there is of course all the little scrolly bars. Anybody having trouble with them? I've never been one for them but I liked this design so much that I thought I'd give them a shot. If they're proving too troublesome to locate I can always make them a more conspicuous colour.

In other news Josh and Mum left Adelaide about two hours ago. They'll fly into Cunnamulla about four this 'arvy. It'll be so good to see them. I can't believe how much I missed just hanging out with my dear Mummy!

Shrek 2 for the Second Time

Good news! Josh has no back or neck injuries and he's been discharged!

Mum said it was amazing when they got into Adelaide last night. It was about 8:30 when they left here (they had to take off in the dark) and they landed about midnight. Straight away they were whizzed to the hospital by ambulance and into a trauma room. Mum said it was just like a Dee Henderson book.

The nurse asked her: "What kind of accident was it?"
Mum: "Motorbike accident."
Nurse: "Ok, I just needed to know which trauma team to call." And she pressed one of the buttons on the wall. Mum reckons that within a minute Josh was surrounded by nine people like ants scurrying everywhere. She said they literally cut his pants off him which he was none too excited about, "But they're my favourite pants!" (I guess I'd forgotten to inform him that they were already trashed, anyway, when I was talking to him while waiting for the plane to get here...) Then for about three hours they took tons of x-rays and tests. At first they were a bit worried about a lump on his neck and got more x-rays and another doctor's opinion, but it turned out to be nothing serious.

They finally got him into a bed about three o'clock this morning. He got a bit of sleep despite the fact they kept coming in every hour to wake him up just to make sure he didn't have a concussion. Mum didn't manage to get any and when I talked to her about twenty minutes ago she sounded really tired. Right now Josh is watching Shrek 2 for the second time (the little boys are so jealous. lol) and a social worker is organizing their trip back. The Flying Doctor will either fly them or because we come from a remote area they'll get an all expenses paid trip back.

Now photos. I wouldn't have thought to take any at first except that between all the gasping for breath Josh manged to say, "Take photos so I can show my American friends." Heh...so we took photos.

Waiting for the doctor to arrive. (he had to keep completely still in case he had any neck or back injuries)

He could get some decent scars.

They're here! (two hours later)

Stabilising him for transport.

Transporting him to the plane on the back of the ute.

Loaded in and almost ready to go.

Inside the plane.

The plane (it was about 7:30)

About to leave (Mum went with him)

Take off (we had to get two of the work utes to light up the end of the airstrip so that the pilot, Bud, knew where to take off before)

Motorbike Accident

Please pray for Josh. He had a motorbike accident this afternoon--hit a sheep doing seventy kilometers an hour. He's pretty scratched up and he was in a lot of shock and pain and there's the possibility of him having neck and back injuries. The Flying Doctor was able to get here in under two hours, and they're now flying to Adelaide. They'll probably get X-rays done tomorrow.

Right now I've run out of any adrenaline I had in reserve and Hannah's got tea ready so I best go. But please just pray. Pray that he has no serious injuries and also for Mum and Hannah and I guess all of us. I'm coping ok, but Hannah and Mum nearly burst into tears quite a few times in the hours waiting for the Flying Doctor to get here.

More news, details, and photos tomorrow.

Living in Eternity's Sunrise

Eternity
He who bends to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sunrise.

Some poems are just beautiful :) I can see myself dreaming and thinking on this one for a while yet.
